German-Turkish relations: increased trade and EU membership

On Wednesday this week, a meeting of the Committee on Security and Foreign Policy of Turkey was held, at which Turkish-German relations became the main topic of discussion.

The current state of relations between the two states, the fight against terrorism, the process of Turkey's accession to the European Union, as well as the problem of the Eastern Mediterranean were discussed at the meeting. In addition, issues of regional cooperation and increase in trade volumes were discussed.

Ankara and Berlin are longtime trading partners: Germany has been Turkey's main source of imports and export market for decades. As pandemic-related restrictions begin to lift, a decision has been made to increase trading volumes.

In addition, at the same time on Wednesday, a panel discussion took place in Paris, where relations between the EU and Turkey were discussed. Since the majority of the Turkish people still believe that EU membership would be beneficial for both the bloc and their country, the question of Turkey's inclusion in the EU remains open.
