Kazakh-Qatari relations: results of the meeting in Doha
A technology transformation forum is currently taking place in Doha, Qatar. The main areas of discussion were geopolitical alliances and international relations, the global financial system and economic development, defense, cybersecurity and food security, as well as climate change and sustainable development.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi also took part in the Forum as an invited guest. Within the framework of the event, bilateral Qatari-Kazakh negotiations were held. The discussion touched upon the work of the Islamic Food Security Organization, whose headquarters is located in the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan, the current state and prospects for further development of Kazakh-Qatari cooperation, as well as the intensification of trade, economic and investment cooperation.
The Minister mentioned that currently Kazakhstan is fighting monopoly, corruption and is in the process of changing the legislation. The prerequisite for systemic changes was the decision to open oil and mining fields to foreign investors and allow the privatization of a number of sectors in order to raise economic indicators, in connection with which a revision of the legislation became inevitable.
While in Doha, Tleuberdi held another meeting – with the Minister of Trade and Industry of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani. The parties discussed preparations for the Kazakh-Qatari investment forum and the expected visit of the Emir of Qatar to Kazakhstan this year.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan invited Qatari businessmen to visit the country and discuss investment opportunities. Previously, the potential of the state as an economic and trade partner of Qatar was highly appreciated due to its border with China and the presence of a large market. The state confirmed that, for its part, it is ready to promote Kazakhstan to the market of the Arab world.
